Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Check out the Excel web query feature: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...CH062528421033

I believe that is what the MOS spreadsheet uses.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

I think the spreadsheet is great but I do have a few questions. Like for example. In the Spreadsheet, we get a Minumum Equity Growth rate from the past 10 years and then take the minumum out of Minumum (Equity) Growth rate and the Rate given to us by the experts on the Earnings Est page. I read in Phil's book that the Rule number one growth rate found by taking Equity Gr Rate which is derived from the Equity at the 10 year Mark RATE(9,,Intial*-1,Current). So then the Default PE is calculated by multiplying that by 2. Am I wrong? Please correct me on this issue.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Maybe you should try to download it again. Sometimes we change the formulas a bit to make things not work. Just a suggestion. It has happend to me.

If you add the plug-in, then all you have to do is change the name of the stock (ticker symbol) on the "Main" page in cell D1, and everything will fill in automatically. Some stocks, perhaps because of limited info on MSN, do not fill in all the blanks. But overall, this is a beautiful spreadsheet.

There is a column for an alternate "Scenario #2" MOS. Perhaps someone could explain using that?

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

If you would rather look at MOS with a different P/E or go with the analyst's numbers instead of with the lowest equity growth rate, etc. (or if you would rather go with the 9 year equity growth to figure out your rule #1 growth rate instead of using the lowest number from the 9 year, 5 year, 3 year, or TTM), you can plug in a different number or two in the salmon colored cells near the top right-hand corner and compare the two versions of MOS. This is an awesome feature, btw!

Two suggestions:

1) "Enable" macros in Excel

2) Make sure you have the plug-in

I don't know of anything else...............

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Questions for all you vetereans. The MOS calculator is working fine except for refreshing. How do we get the spreadsheet to refresh the numbers when we want a new look at the save company. I have all my watchlist saved to seperate files but if I try to refresh them nothing happens.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

PS What happened to the "Watchlist" tab from the example page?
