Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

I just downloaded the fixed spreadsheet. But now there is a new bug. When I put in a new symbol, the calculations are made, after which an Excel dialog box pops up saying: "This Web query returned no data. To modify the query, click OK, click the name of the external data range in the name box on the formula bar, and then click Edit Query on the External Data toolbar." Of course I have no idea what all this means or why it's even popping up. As I said, the company info is all there, but the pop up pops up with each new symbol entered. So now that I downloaded the revised spreadsheet, I can't use it until this is fixed. HELP. Thanks. Mark |

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money
The changes made shouldn't be causing that issue. I remember seeing a solution to this before, I'm wanting to say it had something to do with your macro security settings. You might check that under your "Tools >> Options >> Security" settings, I believe it needs to be set to medium or in some cases, low.
Try that and let me know what you find.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money
I created a spreadsheet before I found this site. I was very impressed with myself. But, after seeing this spreadsheet, I realize I'm a boy in a man's world! Great spreadsheet! Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money
Anyone having trouble with the Margin of Safety Calculator? I just downloaded the latest version. When I enter a symbol, it looks like the total earnings shows in the Current EPS cell, not the earnings per share. Consequently, all of the Margin of Safety calculations are off.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money
Looks like MSN shifted that particular table over, and it caused the spreadsheet to think that the Market Cap was the TTM EPS. I believe I have made the necessary adjustments. The latest version (mos_calc108.xls) is available from the link in the original post of this thread. Please let me know if you have any more trouble.
Thanks, Justin

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money
Justin,
The current P/E doesn't seem to be calculating correctly in mos_calc108. I put in SBUX just like in your initial screenshot. Everything works as planned except for the Current P/E. It now gives a value of 1. The current P/E doesn't work with other symbols either. and thanks for a great spreadsheet. Ive been using it for a month or two and it's a huge help. |

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money
Ok looks like several tables were changed. I think I've caught them all, but if not let me know so I can get it fixed right away. The latest version is now, mos_calc109.xls,available in the first post of this thread.
Thanks for your patience folks! Justin

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money
Hi,
Thanks for the spreadsheet! It is much better than the one that I attempted to make using the formulas that Town gives on his website. However, in your screencap that at the bottom of the sheet, there are other books...i.e, roic, quote, price ratios, etc...Are those just notes or are they separate excel spreadsheets that you aren't willing to share yet. Just curious. |
