Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Hi, thanks for the kind words on the spreadsheet. The extra "books" you are referring to are the additional tabs on the spreadsheet. These tabs are used to collect the data used to perform the calculations on the main tab of the spreadsheet. You are welcome to poke around in these tabs but it's raw data that isn't of much use to anyone.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

LOVE the changes you've made and really appreciate the time and effort you've obviously put into this. However, when I load the spreadsheet and input a stock, I get a "Web inquiry returned no data" error and then a bunch of DIV/O messages in the calculated boxes. I get this even using the Starbucks example in your screenshot.

Since I was using your previous version with no problems, I'm assuming it's a temporary problem with MS Money.

Will keep checking and will report back if I keep getting the same problem.

Hiram

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

I am getting there, I was able to download the spreedsheet of MOS automatically calculator to my computer. After I enter the new ticket symbol, I just click enter, it didn't work. What do you mean by click edit query on the external data toolbar. Is that the toolbar on the excel? but what is the selection from that tool bar?
somebody help!

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Did you go to Tools, Macro, Security? If so what is your current setting? I have mine set at Medium and it works fine.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Ok...I haven't played around with it too much with this until tonight and I am totally confused. I am using a MacBook with my Mac version of MS Office, however, does it not work with MAC's?

I tried putting in the stock symbol and hitting "enter" and nothing happened...am I doing this right? Do I have to manually input the data? I was reading through some of the posts and it seems like EXCEL should just plug into MSN money automatically...is that true?

I am totally confused.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Nuorder, if everything is working properly, it should automatically plug in all the numbers for you. I don't have a Mac so I wouldn't know if it works on them or not. Justin would probably know.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

I'm at work now and I have a PC here, so I am going to give it a try with my work computer to see if I am doing it right.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Ok, it worked on my PC here at work. Does anyone have any pointers/tips on how to make it work on my mac? I have a fairly new version of Excel (07?) and I enabled macros when I opened the program.

Hmmm...I am curious now.

Oh yeah, one more thing...should the automatic Excel book fill out the "background info"? or is that up to us? I noticed that the "background info" field was empty.
