Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

I am getting the same errors that are shown in the previous screen shot. i tried several stocks...the problem seems to be in the area of cells G45 and G46 in calculations for the Historical P/E. we you look at the Rule #1 variables area on the left side of the sheet, historical P/E shows " #DIV/0!"...

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

I am running Office 2007 and am having problems....Sometimes I can get the calculator to work for say, 3-4 ticker symbols, then after that I input a symbol and get an error message stating that an invalid symbol was entered, I click ok and then get an error message stating that my query returned no results....Not sure what to do next. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for the help!

I would close the calculator ( don't save it ) and re open it again or download another copy of it.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

After downloading and opening the spreadsheet, and entering a new symbol, I get all kinds of #value and #DIV/0! cells.
I have exel 2003, winxp and macrolevel set to low.
Anyone an idea what is wrong ?

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Hi guys, I've been monitoring this thread and watching it develop -- I am sorry that some (hopefully not all) folks are having trouble with the spreadsheet.

I can't say that I have experienced any of these errors myself so at this time it is difficult to diagnose the problem. I am running windows xp professional, and excel for office 2003. I just downloaded a fresh copy of the spreadsheet from the original post of this thread - and everything seemed to be in order for the handful of symbols I ran through it. Oh and if you are having trouble with the spreadsheet, try re-downloading it from the original post of this thread. This will ensure that the spreadsheet you are using isn't corrupt.

I'll continue to monitor this thread and hopefully someone can track down the issue and post about it here. Perhaps it is some coding that can be worked out and implemented in new update. On the other hand, if it turns out to be a certain combination of security settings or perhaps just software version, I can at least include some sort of instructions/notation on the spreadsheet itself to help avoid unnecessary confusion.

To those monitoring this thread, it may be helpful if you can drop a quick line to let us know whether or not the spreadsheet is working for you, and what versions of windows and excel you are using. If you have been having problems, please add any additional information you think may be relevant. If you have trouble with certain ticker symbols, be sure to report these so others have a chance to take a look.

Sorry for the trouble folks, together I'm sure we can work this out!

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Guys, make sure that you set excel to allow the macros to run and to allow excel to connect to the Internet. Depending on your settings it should prompt you for permission when the spreadsheet starts up.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

in my case it depends upon which stock is entered. if all the fields are populated the formulas work but if the formulas don't get the answer it needs to calculate the fields won't populate & the error occurs. try entering "rimm" then try "cse". one populates everything ok (rimm) and the other (cse) does not, hence the errors.

Re: Margin of Safety Calculator for MSN Money

Help! Under the current version, no matter what symbol I put in the calculator the MOS, Sticker Price, Future Stock Price and Rule #1 P/E all show up as "#DIV/0!". Can anyone help me?
