Re: Automatic MOS Calculator & Watchlist for Microsoft Excel (Windows)
Dumb newbie question. I tired to go to your earlier link to explain the spreadsheet, but I am getting a page not found (so I figured I would ask here).
On the Watchlist page, what am I looking for as far as the MCD, Stochs and volume trend? If all are green I get in, and if all are red I get out? (Is it that straight forward?) |

Re: Automatic MOS Calculator & Watchlist for Microsoft Excel (Windows)
Even the beta version is doing the same thing for me now. As it is updating the watchlist, only intermittently will some sybols update. It usually leaves everthing blank and I get a yellow color at the last refresh cell. This all used to work for me. Has anything changed? I don't believe I made any changes on my computer.
I guess my qustion is, Is this a problem with the spreadsheet, or something with my computer? Dan |

Re: Automatic MOS Calculator & Watchlist for Microsoft Excel (Windows)
Hi,
I'm a user in Singapore and am trying to find MOS Stocks in Singapore stock market. Can a version be made that draws information from yahoo finance. Don't think msn money has information on Singapore stock exchange whereas yahoo finance has. Thanks. Edwin |

Re: Automatic MOS Calculator & Watchlist for Microsoft Excel (Windows)
Justin,
I wonder if the spreadsheet can be used to screen all the available stocks automatically to create a list of possible candidates. It would seem you could feed a huge list of stock symbols through the program and have it create a smaller list of possible stocks for further evaluation. Of course I have no idea how to do that, but is seems possible. Thanks for the work you have done. jel100us |

Re: Automatic MOS Calculator & Watchlist for Microsoft Excel (Windows)
Make sure you manually check the MACD, MA, and Stochastics against the figures generated by the automatic MOS calculators people. Unfortunately, I have been watching UNT using only the automatic calculator. Today, I ran the charts manually and discovered 3 green indicators that began 4 days ago with the automatic calculator still giving me a red indicator for stochastics. Definitely a learning lesson for me.

Re: Automatic MOS Calculator & Watchlist for Microsoft Excel (Windows)
I'm assuming with the increased Web/Finance traffic over the last day - most MACRO web based Excel updates via the MSN303a spreadsheet are just not completing or timing out..?
Trying to re-run my Watch List items, but it's not returning results back for the majority of them. I doubt there is a work around, wanted to see if others were having similar issues. Searching for a MOS bargain but it's hard without the data..!

Re: Automatic MOS Calculator & Watchlist for Microsoft Excel (Windows)
The spreadsheet is throwing errors because MSN has been making a lot of minor adjustments to the layout of their website. The spreadsheet uses web queries to extrapolate the financial data from specific tables as they would appear on MSN's Money's website. The spreadsheet uses dozens of complex calculations that are based on the data that it assumes is correct. This means that if MSN Money decides to shift the placement of their data even one cell to the left, right, up or down, the spreadsheet will be acting on inaccurate data, and in many cases, no data at all.
This is the primary reason for the recurring errors on the spreadsheet, and the primary reason that we can not rely on any one piece of data or software to be our sole means of research and analysis. Even at 100% functionality, the spreadsheet is nothing more than a tool. A means to facilitate but not replace the research that ultimately we must be willing to perform on our own. This seems like an appropriate time to mention the "Get Quotes" tab. You may have noticed that we've added some additional links to the navigation bar at the top of the page. This is our money folks we've got to be willing to check and re-check the data - no matter where it comes from. The "Get Quotes" tab is a search tool that will let you check the financial background of any given company with some 5 or 6 major data sites. This is a great way to help verify that the data you are using is accurate so definately take advantage of it. Please remember guys, this spreadsheet is the result of a volunteer effort. It's difficult to allocate the time needed to maintain this as though it is professionally developed commercial software. We are working on a fix that will reflect the latest changes to the data site and will post that as soon as it becomes available. We are also exploring a few more long term solutions to the spreadsheet that should help simplify the tool and alleviate the almost constant need for these updates. Thanks, Justin
