Valuing Commodities
I know Town recommends not investing in commodity type businesses because there is no moat and (from my limited research) Buffett for the most part stays away...but the killing that is being made in the agrichemical sector has me really wanting to look more into properly valuing commodity type businesses.
I am currently long FCX, and VLO. Both companies, in my opinion are NOT Town Rule #1 investments but were priced cheap and have great fundamentals...so I couldn't pass them up. I have done well with FCX and believe VLO has been improperly beat down in price and has very little downside and good upside potential. ANYWAY, do you guys have recommendations on valuing companies dealing with commodities? When you perform a DCF should you give yourself a larger MOS? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!!! |
