ADVFN ROIC question

Howcome if I average the last 5 years of LOW 2002 to 2006 right now is giving me 13.16 against the company data 'Return on Capital Invested (ROCI) - 5YEAR AVRG.' 13.5? Is this just a rounding off issue? Which one is more reliable, the 'annual reports' or the one in 'company data? thx.

A few possibilities for the discrepancy -- just guesses:

-- The 5-year average amount may be based on rolling 5-year periods? If you use the annual report ROIC values, your most current value is 3 quarters old.

-- The current quarterly filing data is not fully updated yet -- the update date is shown as 11/21/2006, but not all of the ratios are populated.

Re: ADVFN ROIC question

it may be a difference on how the year is counted. some sites use interium data for the most recent year, and that could result in some differences

Is ROCI on ADVFN the same as Rule #1 ROIC?

on the ADVFN site there is also something called "Normalized ROIC". Does anyone know the difference between the two and which figure should we use?

I love your quote about the bible. You are so right. Having the love of Christ in my heart and the bible as my guide is the greatesr asset in my portfolio.

Re: ADVFN ROIC question

I just saw your post and perhaps you've already found your answer. In case you haven't, I had stuggled to find ROIC data for a while until 'rharmelink' recommended AdvFN.com where you can find rolling 5 year data using a start date as far back as 1995. It's quite good.
The path:
ADVFN.COM…click on the FINANCIAL TAB (top center)…in a field about 3” from the top of the screen, left, enter symbol of company (e.g APOL)…SEARCH RESULT appears with a list of similar names on the right…
*(if SEARCH RESULT doesn’t appear you may have to highlight all Exchanges using the CTRL key, then highlight ‘Common Stock’, ‘Equity’...)
click on Link of the company you want…Company Data screen appears. Click on HISTORICAL ANNUAL REPORT(5” from top, right)…a screen with all financial data appears. select ‘Start Date for Annual Reports’ you’ll get various 5-Year periods…scroll down to bottom, the 2nd last section from the bottom is PROFITABLITY…ROCI is in the middle
THE LINK:
Apollo Company Financial Information

Hope it helps.

You need help... from a professional.

Well, I used to respect your opinion. That's a pretty scummy comment.

Sorry, things like that are far more off-the-wall than you realize when viewed from the perspective of the nonreligious. I just said "wtf? haha" to myself when I read that post.

Of course, I only speak for myself. I don't know if npg is religious or not.

It miffed me for two reasons:

1. If you analyze both quotes, I think it's clear how their religious faith guides their 'life portfolio', not their $ port. Although, I could see how this could be taken out of context.

2. More importantly, belittling someone based on his/her beliefs, reeks arrogance, and ignorance.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Back on track we go.

Re: ADVFN ROIC question

There was enough ambiguity in my comment to suggest different outcomes. With the right mind set one could have well construed that the professional might well have been a professional money manager.

It all depends on ones sense of humour. Arguably, mine may not be the best one...
