new at this

hi guys,

i'm really new at this. i'm just trying to figure out where i can find all the numbers right now and it's really confusing. i don't have excel (i want one though). In order to calculate the sticker price, where do i find the historical (equity) growth rate? do i look at the 10 yr ? 5 yr or 1 yr equity growth rate? in the example from the book with susan and doug on pg 234. they used the 9 yr rate, but i noticed on your excel u used the 1 yr as the hitorical growth rate. pls help i'm confused

Hey lychee10,

The Historical PE is the average of the 5 year high and the 5 year low on MSN's moneycentral web site. The reason the number won't quite be the same as Justin's is because he is pulling information from Investools which can be different than what we're getting off of MSN.

The analysts growth rate comes from MSN's moneycentral/earning estimates/earning growth rates/next five years for the company. The estimated growth rate is the minimum of the 1 year, 3 year, & 5 year growth rates. The spreadsheet then takes the lower of those two for the Rule1 Growth rate.

Hope that helps.
