And it looks like it might start to drop soon if MACD keeps going down.

Just an update... I had a trailing stop on ASVI on my first purchase, and got stopped out. Then I bought back in at $20.50. I set another stop this time at $22.00, and it got stopped out again today. Just so happens there were two out of three sell signals. So it was probably a "better safe than sorry" scenario.

Its hard to get over the feeling of "well, what if it goes straight back up again, and when I get back in, I will have lost out on all those gains?" But as a Rule #1 investor, I guess that's what we have to give up, in exchange for a little peace of mind. I still came out with about a 7% gain. I'll be ready to jump back in when the indicators say go!

How does a Trailing Stop Loss Work?
Posted: Jul 7, 2006 12:48 PM Reply

If I set a trailing stop loss on a stock that is 3% below stock price, does the stop reset itself each night, even when the stock goes down (assuming a long position)? Or does it stay put on down days and move higher on up days?

If it moves each night, then it is only a protection against intra day moves, and would still require a hard mental stop at some point, correct?

The trailing stop works off of the high price. If your stock is at $10 and you have a 5% trailing stop, it would trigger the order at $9.50, regardless of what day it occurs on. If the stock then moves up to $11 an hour (or day) later, the trailing stop would move up along with it to %5 below the high.

asvi

I am paper trading and bought ASVI on 6-14 @ $19.16. Sold today at $21.77 after it crossed below 10 day and hit 50 day MA. STOC and MACD are red. I bought on 10 day MA. Thoughts?

Now would be the time to get out if you haven't already imo.

I bought at 18.18 per share and sold at nearly 23.

This one is still dropping, it seems like once it starts to make its bounce back up it should result in some nice gains.
