Armor Holdings (AH)

I found a nice business & have been tracking it. I bought a small piece today.

AH (Armor Holding, Inc.). I was waiting for MACD to go green for a 3rd Green. I pulled the trigger when I learned they just inked a 19.2 million dollar contract. They are the sole provider for blast-surpressers for Humvees. Plus body armor. If it helps our soldiers I am all for it! If the war keeps going the way it is, our military will continue to need more supplies. Pres. Bush's upcoming statement (re: war & adding more troops) will be informative for these types of businesses.

There have been rumblings of a buy out by Lockheed Martin, in Oct-Nov.

I have MOS at $57.70 (spreadsheet) & $65.53 (by hand with Phil's Calculator). I got in at $54.60. It looks good on all R-1 fronts. I hope it goes up with a Bang!

Re: AH

When you made the calculations you calculated the numbers for 10 years correct? so the Iraqi war will last until 2016? not impossible but highly doubtful but I do not want to make this a bash or political posts. Just keep in mind the numbers of years your calculations are based on and what affects your company. Personally I do not know much about (AH) but a company that depends a lot on one product are risky.

Re: AH

Point well taken. They supply law enforcement also. I do not want to go point counterpoint on two bad things war & crime but they are here and now. We may as well have the people combating these issues be the best equiped. I have little doubt they will continue to grow and make a profit. Lets face it all businesses are speculative! Especially regarding growth. By a businesses' very nature/concept, I think that is why the word "intrinsic" is used.

I thought long and hard prior to posting AH. Especially regarding war and profiting from it. I'll just leave it there. Your free to make your choice.

I have been keeping an eye on AH for a while but haven't bought yet. However, I think that even though we will not be in Iraq for 10 years, the War on Terror will surely go on for a long time. If not in Iraq or Afghanistan, then Iran, North Korea, Syria, Libya, or somewhere else. The approach could change under a new President in 2 years, but I think America will always be the "watchmen on the walls of world freedom" (JFK, 11/22/63). There is some MOAT (and a lot of federal gov't money) there, I believe.

AH

Correction on AH. It was brought to my attention that I off on my MOS for AH. I checked the numbers and found the MOS should have been $46.28. Not $57.70 as kicked out by the spreadsheet.

EPS 3.66, I used earnings Experts Est. 5 Yrs. 16.30 (mine was 47 to high) and Historical PE of 22.60. Future Value 374.48, Sticker 92.57 & MOS 46.28.

Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Armor Holdings (AH)

When you buy stocks of a company, you are buying the company. And this company takes part in producing killing machines which are inteded for, well, killing. So you own the stock and you are indirectly responsble for killing people. Why anyone would do that is beyond me..

Or you could indirectly responsible for saving people or liberating war torn locations around the globe depending on the circumstances. The armor on these vehicles protect the troops from being killed do they not ??

It is obviously not as straight forward as you suggest.

But Macdonalds or Burger King for that matter........

The U.S., just like the wast majority of other imperialist countries through the centuries, does not liberate countries, although they like to present it that way. The U.S., especially as of late, creates hysteria around a country, lie about that country, then invade, and put a puppet/man loyal to the U.S. in place, and then begins to change the policy of the country in favor to U.S. geopolitical or economic interests.

It's not pretty, but then again reality can be pretty ugly.

In regards to McDonalds and BurgerKing, while they are fueling the obesity that is really epidemic in the West, people go there voluntarily. A person going to McDonalds ask for a burger. An Afghan, Iraqi or Somali never asks to be bombed or shot.
