Buy wonderful companies with wiiiiiiiide moats. Crocs is definitely not a wonderful company. It was already screened out by having good taste before even using a stock screener. |

Re: Hello and welcome to our community!
Great site. Phil Town's Rule #1 makes more sense and is more useful than other books I've read. I just joined this site and figured out MOS price for the first time on some stocks this weekend. Did it manually (well using Excel) for practice. These aren't really Rule #1 stocks. Can anyone check my numbers?
MOS Price URBN: $29.30 AAPL: $37.98 VE: $4.48 P.S. URBN might be a RULE #1 stock. Could put a limit order because it is close to it's MOS price if I calculated it correctly. I'm not really sure about the moat. Its really hard to build a moat on trendiness or lifestyle which by definition constantly changes. |

Re: Hello and welcome to our community!
I have enoyed reading Phil Town's book.
The one thing I am having trouble grasping from the book and the blog posts is a real example of how to use the online tools to actually calculate a sticker and MOS price. Meaning...Stock A , here are the #'s and where i found them, and when I plugged them in, I got this price for sticker and MOS. I learn better when i can see an example, repeat it myself, then apply it to other stocks. Does anyone know of a good example somewhere? |

Re: Hello and welcome to our community!
Hello Everyone:
My name is Julie. Currently 25 yo from California. I just finished Phil's book last weekend and stumbled across this forum while trying to figure out why my MOS price was so low... Anyway, this forum looked great so I joined. (Cheers to Justin!) I apologize that I won't able to be a valuable contributor for a while until my brain fills up a bit more, but I welcome any input. Regards, Julie Current Summer Reading List: Intelligent Investor (Graham), Good to Great (Collins), and Predictably Irrational (Ariely). Let me know if you have any great book recommendations I should add on! |

Re: Hello and welcome to our community!
Hello, I am JKM, educator and coach. I have been practicing Rule #1 for about a year and over the last 6 months I have been putting it to work. I am very interested in hearing from a community of like minded people. Although I have been very pleased with my overall results during this short time, it seems like I have been working in the dark with the only light being Phil Towne's book. I am hoping I get some new ideas or at least some confirmation that I might be on the right track and maybe connect ot others in the community to bounce ideas and thoughts. I look forward to hearing from you or at least reading what others are thinking.

Re: Hello and welcome to our community!
Jason King originally from California. Currently lost in the woods in Missouri. Been wanting to invest for years just never had the time to really get involved. With the book, I guess not much time is needed after all. Still having a difficult time trying to locate the correct numbers in a vast amount of hay.

Re: Hello and welcome to our community!
Hang in there & keep crunching the numbers. It will get easier & make sense. Read everything you can get your hands on. Check the posts on this board. Some very good information & businesses to research.

Re: Hello and welcome to our community!
Hi,
Both my husband and myself are 28 years old. We live in Orange County, California. I'm currently unemployed. I was laid off from a mortgage company in 12/2007. My husband is currently employed with Countrywide, which will soon be Bank of America. My husband actually came across The Rule #1 book at a bookstore about two years ago, but we never took the time to seriously study it until now. Both of us are VERY new and inexperience in this field. I'm glad we were able to find a book that is able to walk us through the steps on how to evaluate a company. Now the next step is to find the company. We welcome any and all advice and suggestions. Thanks! |
