Welcome! There are quite a few Investools people here so I'm sure they can help you with any questions. Just remember to practice first before playing the game!

Hi Nancy, I also am involved in the on-line course. You are going to find that the investools group does their investing differently from the Rule #1 way. I find that I learn different things from both. How are things in Hawaii right now?

I'm pretty sure I read in Phil's blog a while back to use ROE instead of ROIC with Banks. Welcome North!

Cool Greetings From The Silver State

Hello fellow investors! This is Kurt bringing greetings from Reno, Nevada. I have just recently gotten interested in investing after I saw Phil Town at a Get Motivated seminar. I signed up for INVESTools and bought Phil's book. Now, instead of playing games on my PC all the time, I'm researching and trading stocks in my paper trading account. I've been having good luck with CTSH and SAY, but I am very interested in what fellow Rule #1 Investors have to say so I'm glad I surfed to this excellent site!! Happy trading!

Morningstar gives US BANCORP (USB) a wide Economic Moat rating. Is that just because of its size? The only moat that I see with banks is that it is such a pain to switch from one to another.

Phil identifies reluctantcy switching as one of it's moat criteria. He cites microsoft as an example.

I don't know what USB business is like, but without being able to understand it (ie within ones circle of competence) it is still a risky investment. Although technical indicators do help, you still have to make a judgement about the companys prospects, positioning and current status. Failing to do that may not only risk losing money, but also risk of being spooked out of a nice profit run one should have taken part.

It's my experience. Your mileage may vary.

Hello from Ireland

Hi all,

Just wanted to say hi to all and say how much i have enjoyed finding this forum and the amount of information to be gained and shared. I must say there are alot of very smart talented people on this forum the download section have some great time savers that i am sure even Mr Warren Buffet would be impressed with.
Not sure if i am the first Irish to sign up all the way from Dublin, Ireland but i want to wish everyone the most profitable success adventures on their investment career but i know there is no reason to wish any good Irish luck onto anyone because with the knowlegde of Phil behind us as our Rule #1 and the mood swings Mr Market makes like even now... we are going to take advantage as the little guys :) .
I have never invested before this is my first time as an investor. I have been paper trading recently, did a small real trade on ASVI as a feeler to studying my own emotions and learn to control them and to watch the mood swings of Mr Market and it has been a great learning. I am not ready to pull the trigger on my first big investment but getting the confidence slowly but surely.
I hope to share my learnings on this journey too. One company i really like is WIRE ... but then again you probably all have this on your watch list. Right now i am studying the managment. I am electronics background and these guys WIRE certaintly appear to me to have a moat well worth looking into.

Thanks again to all for this great forum , Justin you may have kickstarted one of the best forums I have come across on investment, excellent stuff..truely a great community i look forward to having a great time and hopefully making some cents to add to my pot of gold :)

cheers
Jason.
