New Here

Hello,
I am excited to find this site. I am new to all this investing, I mean really new. I have so many bookmarks to look up abbv. so I can make some sense of it all, but I am excited to learn. I have come back to reality and have realized this is going to take taime and effort to start from total invest illiteracy, but now my time line is open. If all I can spend is an hour a day learning, then so be it. I have a full schedule so.....

Also I have signed up for the Invest tools 2 day class. Have paid nothing yet but I will make my decision on the first day. I hate that I will be inundated with sales pitches to pay more, but so far I have navigated around the website easily and its quick learning. This site is a source of great info. I like the idea of sharing cost on this. If anyone is in the area of MB, SC let me know.

Thanks
Carla

Hi! I'm a 36yr old mom, married with three kids ages 10, 7, and 6. We live in Oceanside, CA (San Diego county). I run a small daycare business out of my home, and my husband is a service tech for Sierra Pacific Windows.

A friend recommended Phil's book, and I took to it right away. His method really hit home, and feels so comfortable. I came into this completely cold, and have learned so much! After only a few months, I made some money on ASVI!

Ultimately, I hope to do some short term trading as a living along with Phil's method (watching children for a living is exhuasting). Not being the primary breadwinner, I don't have tons of pressure, so this is a very exciting possibility!

Thanks for this incredible site, Justin! Its a valuable resource, and I know we'll all have greater success by pooling our efforts.
Pam

Hello! My name is Kevin, I'm 33, and I live in Southern Minnesota with my wife and four kids. I've been away from the group for a while, as we've been on two vacations and started putting an addition on our house. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things, find some good companies and continue paper trading.

My wife is a dentist, and I'm a stay at home dad. We want to be able to retire and put four kids through college, so I've been tasked with figuring out how to make our retirement funds actually grow in value. I'm hoping Rule 1 is going to do it.

Plus I'm trying not to melt in this heat.

My name is Will and I live in West MI. I am 27 and my wife is 26. My wife and I are engineers at the same company (it's not that bad!). We've been looking for something else...beside the 401k. We've been saving quite a bit in the 401k thusfar and have decent returns. But after reading Rule#1, my wife and I will now take a more active roll in investing and will hopefully be successful! Our first purchase should be in the next few weeks - exciting!!

I am: Jason, 24, web development, New York City, guitar.

I've been investing in the stock market for several years, but I was doing it all wrong. I just bought companies that I liked (ebay, symc, nflx, goog) without doing any research. I'm getting ready to sell them (mostly for a loss) so I can do some Rule #1 investing!

I got into Rule #1 when my father cut out the review about it in the Wall Street Journal and gave it to me. I'm almost done reading the book and I'm very excited about finding this forum (and that excel spreadsheet is amazing)!

Hi. My name is David and I'm a 48 year old Information Technology Manager for a mid-sized manufacturing company in upstate South Carolina. I've worked around computers and software for almost 25 years.

Most of my investments to date have been in livestock (and I don't mean futures, I mean "dogs" that I wound up losing money on).

I got Phil's book about a two months ago and have read it several times. I like his approach. I have an undergraduate degree in finance and an MBA and his reasoning just makes sense to me.

I think this forum is wonderful and I appreciate all the work that has gone into it. The Excel spreadsheets are a real piece of programming genius!

My name is Ron, though you could tell that from my screen name, I'm sure. I'm a district manager for a building materials company headquartered in NE Arkansas. I manage 15 locations in 5 states. The company I work for is an ESOP company and is 100% owned by employees. Annually, they contribute between 15 and 20% of my total compensation to the plan. We have long term employees who become very wealthy when they retire because the fund has at grown 15% annually (on average since inception in the early 80's). Unfortunately, I've only been here three years, but I figure by the time I'm 60, I can kick back!

My wife is a home-maker and a great home she makes! I'm 40 and have three kids ages 12, 11, and 6. My brother-in-law graciously set up college funds for my kids, so that is out of the way. He also generously funded them.

I've always wanted to get involved in stock investing but never learned anything about it. I saw Phil on Fox Dayside when I happened to go home one day for lunch. Though the interview wasn't the best (he didn't have enough time), I was very interested and bought the book that afternoon on Amazon. I read the book on a plane trip to Dallas and re-read it several times that week. I was hooked.

I opened a Roth at Scottrade and made a little on Panera (PNRA). Right now I have money in Kohl's (KSS) and it seems to be on an up-trend. Fingers are crossed.

Many, many thanks to Justin for creating this site.
Many, many thanks also to Pat and others who created the spreadsheets.

Hi,
My name is Blair and I live in Seattle and build homes for a living, I enjoy what I do and am doing well, but would like to be a succesful investor also.
I would like to say that it is good to be able to read so many great questions with thoughtful answers from conserned readers. I have read Phils book but I must admit to being a bit overwhelmed with how much information we are supposed to not only digest but be able to put into practice. I am not even ready to try paper trading at this point and feel pretty disenchanted with rule #1 as a way to make investing a 15 minute a week hobby. What are the keys to understanding his book.
