Welcome Tom. Here is some advice for you: Join one of the Rule 1 Competitions offered by this board and only paper trade for a few months. Also, while you are on the paper trade site, take a look at what everyone else is doing (especially those doing well) and try to figure out why people are making the moves that they are making. Ignore the traders (or the trades) that don't fit Rule 1 trades (some people are trading commodities and penny stocks, which are not Rule 1).

Joining in on the fun
Hello...thought I would finally join in on the fun. New to Rule #1 (and investing in general). I've been reading a lot on this board for about a month now and having been waiting to pull the trigger (which I should have done on URBN a couple of days ago). Guess I should stick to paper trading until I get the hang of it all.

Hola from Idaho
Greetings from Idaho!
I went to a Get Motivated seminar in SLC a couple of months ago. That is where I first heard of Phil Town. He got me interested enough when I got home to buy his book. We read it together and instantly became Rule#1 Investors. It took a while to get set up, but now we are paper trading. We feel confident that we know what we are doing, and that we will make a profit without ever breaking Rule#1 - thanks to Phil Town! I am 55, my husband is 53, yes, I like younger men!! We are hoping I can retire in about 3 years. I have a 401K with Vanguard through my company and we are hoping we can roll that over to something like Scottrade. If anyone knows about this and can give us any insight on how to accomplish this, please let me know. My husband is a native Idaho boy and I am a beach girl. So we bought about an acre of land down in Baja - Mexico. (B.C.S.) It is about 30 miles south of La Paz. A little down right on the beach. We also have a cabin up in the mountains in a place called Island Park. Our plan is to live in Island Park during the summers (Idaho is gorgeous in the summer), and the winters in Baja - sweet! We have two kids, a son in college - Construction Engineering, a daughter in Oregon and two grandchildren. Glad to be here and hope to get to know some of you. Patsy (aka Bajabnd) |

Hello Tom and welcome to our Community! As a newcomer, your first goal should be to read everything you can possibly get your hands on. These forum's are a great place to start. Hartman is right about the Rule #1 Paper Trading Competitions. They are a great way to test your knowledge, although like he said there are several that choose to make risky swing trades that may or may not pay off. Don't try to make the top of the list, just try to improve upon your own past performance. Also, don't ever hesitate to ask any questions you have along the way. There are tons of people here who can help!
See you on the boards!
