Greetings from a new member

Hello all...

Great site! I bought Phil's book after seeing an interview on TV, and read it all in one sitting. I discovered your site yesterday, and joined immediately. It's already consumed hours of my time, and I'm sure it will take me several hours more until I feel comfortable. I'm looking forward to the challenges that I face, and thank each and every one of you for sharing your experiences. I only hope that I can contribute something worthwhile in the future.

Keep up the good work,
Ken

Glad to have you, Ken. You story sounds very familiar! I also saw him (on Fox News Dayside), bought the book and then read it on an airplane trip. I was hooked!

Cool Hola from deep south Texas.

I picked up Phil's book two weeks ago and finished soon after that. I like his approach to teaching value investing as I was able to understand all of his concepts. I will now begin virtual trading for a few months to get some practice in. This site is great too especially the MOS spreadsheet I found.

Another Philadelphian

Whats up everyone, I'm pretty new here. Im 15 years old and have been actively investing in the stock market for just over a year now. Im about break even over the past year (I started with $7300, half of my bar mitzvah money), made some money on MER, ANF and IIF but lost some on AMGN and PWAV. Anyway Ive become interested in Rule #1 but I know that because of my age I can afford to be a little more risky and growth oriented. In any case, its a good strategy to learn and follow. I think it makes a lot of sense and has forced me to be more disciplined (avoid investing in stocks in which I dont have a conviction they will go up)

This is a valuable site. Thanks for all of your time.

My watch list is:

GYMB, PLCE, CWCO, PNRA, MOT, BBBB

Hello from Minneapolis, MN

Just a note to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Lynn and I'm from the NW suburbs of Minneapolis. My investing activities started 12 years ago after reading the Beardstown Ladies' first book, finding NAIC, and starting an investment club. I consider myself a fundamental investor, and I love to read about valuing companies. I've read many of the books on the reading list forum.

Someone within the NAIC community recently asked me to read Rule #1, so I did. It's my first introduction to technical investing. The book did a great job of covering the fundamental aspects of investing. When it turned technical, I wasn't expecting it. And in fact, I was actually disappointed at first. But much of what Phil said made sense to me, which piqued my curiosity and gave me the incentive to seek out this website.

I must admit, the more I read here, the more confused I'm getting, but that happened with NAIC, too. I haven't been challenged in a long time, and this certainly looks like a challenge! I have a good command of researching companies, but I don't always buy or sell properly. So, I'm looking forward to learning this method.

I appreciate the fact that this community exists, and I plan to utilize it. If I'm lucky enough to learn this process, I'll be equally prepared to give that knowledge back.

If there is anyone in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area who would like to work together, experienced or novice, please contact me. I find learning in a group is infinitely easier.

Thanks,

Lynn O.

Welcome, Lynn. We're glad you're here.

Its always neat to find something new to stimulate the old brain cells, isn't it?

Gotta ask . . . what is a garbage cop?

Re: Hello from Minneapolis, MN

Hi Lynn,

I just moved to Phoenix from downtown St. Paul on August 1st. I could see both the State Capital building and the Cathedral from my balcony.

You mentioned NAIC. If you do any analysis with SSG files, you may want to check out STOCKcentral.com (beta) :: Community, Data, and Insight for Investors -- they have SSG file downloads by ticker symbol. Membership is free for now, but they will be charging in the future.
