Re: hi from Boston!!
yes it is a lot of issues, but some are in my wife's IRA and I rarely trade them. I guess I want a number of issues so that if any one went to zero in a scandal, I wouldn't get too burned. I also wanted companies that had 'brand' name appeal and were profitable. I think this really protects the investor. The ones that give me the biggest headache are the retail shares, like COH and ANF. I think others feel the same about retailers! These two have put up such good numbers lately that there is a big downside risk to them if they underperform. I also like big consumer goods value-like stocks, like BUD. I guess I'm both a value and growth investor.
The best performers recently has been FMD, which handles student loans (is not a lender). Many of you probably know it. Highly profitable...tanked last year over a minor scandal. |

Introducing myself
Hello everybody from Greenville, SC! I am new to this community and am very interested in getting more involved with investing. i have read through Rule 1 and am wanting to read it again to catch things i may have missed the first time through. i am eager to learn how y'all find what stocks are good to invest in (that is the biggest challenge for all though). just wondering if you could point my in the right direction of finding those "diamonds in the rough". looking forward to getting started.

Re: Introducing myself
hi laedwards,
Welcome and enjoy the journey... for me i found too many and i had to spend time filtering them out ether because they had no meaning to me or they really were not rule 1 companys. I recommend looking through the homeworks... some to consider for your watch list are PNRA, LOW, CHS, FMD, URBN... some of these i have missed the boat but in this game Mr Market will always get emotionally and return a good MOS back to you. cheers J. |

Beginner in Jersey
I'm new to stock investing, but wanted to take some control of my investments after seeing Phil during a seminar earlier this year and reading his book. I have been putting money into mutual funds for about the last 5 years and haven't seen the return I was expecting.
I have analyzed several companies, came up with a good watch list, did some paper trading for about 4 months, and then finally pullled the trigger on PSUN about a month ago. I closed it out last week and didn't break Rule #1. I'm hoping to gain further insight and information from the forum. It is already helping. Thanks. |

NYer who knows JAKK
Reading Rule 1 - found a toy company JAKK that intrigues me for no other reason than it seemingly has all the criteria nailed, even though I am only at Chapter 9. I really don't know management, but they own licensing for WWE products through 2009. I am very new at this game and appreciate some over-sight and opinions. Look forward to some new ideas - Thanks JV
