Greetings all. I am new to this and am very excited about my future. I completed the book and have been doing some of the calculations in my head and by hand. Needless to say when I saw the spreadsheet I could barely contain myself. I also attended the invest tools seminar and am planning on doing that in the future. I am in the paper trading stages now. Looking forward to working with everyone.

Re: Hello I am new to this
Welcome. Have patience. Don't start pulling the trigger right away. Paper trade & prove your evaluations were correct & did'nt lose money! There is lots of great opportunites out there every day.
The spreadsheet is wonderful. Make sure you can do the numbers by hand or in your head. I need to do them on flashcards & a hand calc. I file the flash cards away, they are easy to work with, don't take a lot of space. A lot get shredded right away. There are some down and dirty runs you can make forquick evaluations. You can add or delete real quick. I start with ROIC. Make or break on to the next function or stock. The spreadsheet can become a security blanket & you can miss some nice opportunities. Make sure you know the numbers so when you get to the spreadsheet you understand what your looking at. If you get and error, figure out why, espicially if the other numbers look good. ![]() |

Re: Hello I am new to this
Welcome aboard,
Do what Gunnski said and then some. Spend about one hour a day reading about the market. Why you ask? so you know whats going on in the market and where the sales are at? In addittion, everytime you have a question ASK!,be 100% before clampind down your money. We have enough people checking out the site that sooner or later someone will point you in the right direction. -Alex |

Re: any advice for a new guy?
first and foremost welcome aboard copper.Thank you for being a hero and serving your community. Papertrade for a while. Papertrading is a nice way to "invest" without investing :). By papertrading I mean invest using fake money. There are a couple of sites to help you out. Investopedia.com is probably the most known but has been having technical issues as of late due to management upgrading the site from its old look. Personally my favorite is marketocracy.com. It's like running your own mutual fund. It has nice graphics to see how your doing against the market. The site also has plenty of charts to show how diversified you are in certain industries. In addittion, you get ranked with other mutual funds. Finally, you have to meet all SEC regulationed for you to be ranked. By far best of breed.
Again this is just for you to get a little experience. While your papertrading ask every question possible. I or someone on the board will point you in the right direction -Alex |

Hello From Ireland
Hello All
Been lurking around this community long enough without introducing myself. Very interested in Rule One. Lost a lot of money in 2001 in dot com bust, wish I had the tools back then. Anyway that's in the past. Feel quite excited about this forum. I have been trying to educate myself as much as I can. It's hard to maintain a discipline I find. Can anyone recommend an online course that adheres to rule one type investing. Invest Tools seems good but they seem really expensive, however if it was worth it I would follow up on that. Cheers John |
