Re: Hello from Ireland
I tried to research the irish and english companies too but gave up after one day, as you said, far to difficult to get info, which also means they could be hiding alot of things from the books which would be no surprise. I think it is safer staying with the US listed companies.

Re: Hello from Ireland
I plan to pay my tax liability in Ireland. The tax system is actually more favorable for short term investments here. You should talk to an accountant but here is what I've gathered from my research into it.
If you are not a professional investor or day trading full time, make sure you fill out a W8Ben form if you want to file as an Irish resident. The good news is as a short term trader (which you would be if you are trading in and out on the three tools) ie you are holding for less than a year, you are subject to 20% taxes on your gains. Whereas you are subject to 35% on gains in the US. That is a substantial difference. I wouldn't ignore it. If you hold for more than a year, it is still 20% in Ireland but 15% in US. Do check those figures yourself though. John |

New in Wisconsin
Just read the Rule 1 book, and I will say it opened my eyes on investing. Before I had no idea what the numbers meant. now I am learning with every search for a company. Hope to be here for a long time!

Vegas anyone?
Greetings all, this is Chris from Vegas. I've been a member of the community for a while, albeit a mostly silent, absorbent sponge-type member, paper trading still while building my cash reserves and venturing out into the real world.
Just wanted to say "HI" and ask if anyone else from Vegas is in the community? Perhaps we could begin a local Rule #1 Investment gathering at a local restaurant/eatery/beverage establishment? Hope to be a more active poster in 2007 as I start to apply the lessons learned here. Many thanks to Justin for his tireless efforts, and everyone who continues to provide such great content here! Cheers, Vega$Chri$

Newbie to Rule #1
Hello,
I read Phil's book in November this year and executed my first real trade today. Probably not the smartest thing to do with real money, but I did do my homework, feel very comfortable with the Big Five and Four M's. So, we'll see where this goes. Looking forward to digging deeper into this forum also. Is there a newbie's FAQ and or guide to this site. I find myself finding stuff and then having trouble coming back to it. Already I want to say a big thank you to Justin and the folks that have put so much effort into the tools and threads here. Mark |

Some miles on the odometer, but new here
Greetings from Western Canada.
I noticed Phil's book at the airport before Christmas and couldn't put it down. I've been investing with moderate success for about 30 years, and was delighted to find so much good advice in one book, and then so much more good information on this forum. Happy investing to all in 2007, and may we all get good at the important things in life... Halfwise |

Hi everyone,
I have been lurking on the site several months now. I officially made a New Year's resolution to get started with the #1 Rule, even though it scares me silly! Anyway, I just signed up on Invest Tools, paid the $995 Success Magazine rate for the online course. FYI if you say you have a "flyer" from Success Magazine that has the $995 rate they will give it to you. I figure I need all the help I can get. I am still a little confused/concerned about the tax implications, but I will figure it out soon enough! A |
