New guy from Singapore

Hi guys, i am Elnoxvie, an IT Executive, living singapore. I have almost finished the rest of Rule One Investor book. Find the strategy very interesting. Would like to try to earn money to break my current financial situation through Phil's method. Either buying singapore's shares (but lacking the information to get the 4 m for singapore's)/ US. How is anyone doing so far with phil's strategy?
Everyone's doing good ??
Did you guys start from paper trading ??

High from Crested Butte, CO

OK, I'm not high on any substances, rather on altitude, and the hope of learning this business.

I've listened to the book at least 3 times on audio. Finally ordered the paper copy last week so I can see some of the details in black and white.

Finding this site made my year. OK, I know it's a pretty young year on the calendar, but I was referring to the TTM year. Thanks, Justin, for creating and working it.;

Some thoughts:
Has the possibility of going with real names been considered? I frequent dvinfo.net where real names provide great accountability, a sense of camaraderie and the reputations developed translate into the 3D living world, like having lunch together.

I would find a dictionary or glossary helpful. People using acronyms, abbreviations and and tech terms make things hard to follow.

This is great forum software. even a spellchecker...

Looking forward to exciting times ;bargain-hunting together.

ciao,
Scott Brickert

A Big HELLO from Toledo Ohio!

Hi Everyone:

Wow, what a blessing to find this community!

I've been "investing" (if you want to call it that) for a little over 16 years. It took a lot of convincing back in the day for my wife to let me send money to some out-of-state mutual fund company that didn't provide a passbook on our account (remember those?). But once she started seeing our money grow faster than it did in the bank, she got totally on board with the idea and now loves saving as much as I do.

Anyway, we've invested mostly in mutual funds over the 16+ years, heavily in index funds, and have a mix of accounts such as 401K's, IRA's, SIMPLE's, and a few regular investment accounts like for college funds and "emergency money".

I've tried buying a few individual stocks over the years, but almost every one was a dismal failure because I didn't have any rules to follow. Case in point would be the MSFT and CSCO that I bought back in March of 2000. Sadly, I'm STILL holding them. I have no idea what to do with them now...and I just can't get myself to sell. I keep thinking they'll eventually "come back" and make me some money.

My most recent stock purchase was GEOI and I bought it last year around $15. It's now sitting at $5.82 and I haven't sold it yet. What the heck was I thinking! You know what? That was a Jim Cramer recommendation on his show and I was dumb enough to actually buy it the next day!

OK, I'm babbling...

Basically, I'm a computer engineer by day, and a Internet Entrepreneur / Investor Success-Story Wannabe by night. I started reading Rule #1 in late 2006 and haven't yet finished the whole book.

Half way through the book, I decided that 2007 is going to be the year I finally do something different with my investment portfolio. I've done so-so in mutual funds, but I know I could have done SO much better if I had a solid strategy and had been more actively involved over the years. I think Rule #1 could be just the ticket to make it happen.

Lastly, I have to say the MOS calculator (spreadsheet) available here for free is FLAT OUT AMAZING!!! I'm not sure how it all works yet, or how many people are responsible for creating it - but THANK YOU!!!! I'm sure it's going to save a ton of time doing research for good Rule #1 investments.

Well, I have a lot of reading to do so I can get familiar with the community and all the stuff going on. I hope to meet and talk to many of you very soon!

-Dave

Hello from the Texan living in Virginia

I just found this site today. Looks to be like a good place to discuss investing with people of the same approach.

I read RULE #1 last year and really like the approach to determining the value of a company.

I'm still relatively new to investing in the stock market so I plan on learning alot from you guys.

Thanks,

Jerrod

Welcome to the community!

I'm not sure if such a discussion group has been created yet but we have members all over the place so perhaps one could be organized. I'm almost certain you aren't the first member from Arizona so that's a start!
