Hello from Iowa

I read Rule #1 last summer, and became a member of this forum after reading Phils site often. Unfortunately, I have never made a post (rectifying this now).

Due to time constraints, I stopped practicing in the stock simulations, and I think I need to start from scratch to pick it all back up again.

I intend to read the book again, to refresh my memory.

I created my own auto calculating MOS spreadsheet last summer, but now that I look it over, it's broken due to changes to the websites that it pulled data from.

I also had a half-completed website for the same purpose, written in PHP (mostly to teach myself how to program in this language, and use MySQL). I've found that one of my hard drives failed on my server, and it is now lost.

I'm not sure how much tools development I'm going to devote my time to. I want to get the fundamentals down before trying that again (I think it distracted me from getting a solid understanding the first time around anyway.)

I'm a novice when it comes to programming anyways, as my background is grounded in computer networking.

I'm looking forward to learning the ways of investing with the rest of you.

I am looking forward to having fun investing. I am in my second read of Rule#1 in the last two weeks. Overwhelming for a new investor, but I am determined to get it right. I have a sense that Phil Town has integrity around all this, so I'm going to give it my best shot. I've been watching Mad Money, and like Cramer's enthusiasm, have made some money, but don't know what I'm doing. I think I can change that here. Happy Trails.

Talking Jim from Michigan

Hello to all. I've been a trader for about 20 years with minimal success. I just finished reading Rule #1 and am excited about becoming an investor. I'm a husband of one and a Father of three so I don't have a significant amount to invest, but I hope to build that up with what I've been learning. The excel MOS calculator looks to be a great tool. Thanks for the work that was put into it.

That's me in a nutshell. See you on the boards!

Re: Jim from Michigan

Hi Jim

I'm from Michigan myself. I have just begun to take an interest in investing outside of mutual funds. Wow with those kinds of returns, it is an exciting read, Phil's R1. It make sense to me, and that is what makes me wonder if it just snake oil in disguise, works for a few by luck, but not the rest. I'm going to read it again, as soon as my wife finishes it. She likes the concept also and has been reading Phil's website. He makes alot of sense telling us what we want to hear. Being a Vietnam Vet is what got me paying attention to begin with. The old Semper Fi.

Cool Re: Peter O

Hi Peter and welcome. I just joined the community myself. I like watching Cramer too and have made a few trades based on his recommendations. I think Phil's method is quite a bit more disciplined than Cramer's and I hope to learn that discipline here myself. I'm looking to try out the paper trading competition as soon as I can to see I'm learning. I wish you success!

Re: Peter O

JB,
Thanks for your post. The homework here doesn't scare me, but the discipline of not trading until I have confidence that I won't lose money is a challenge for me personally, since it's far easier to pull the trigger just because someone who knows what they are doing, like Cramer, tells me something is a good deal. I wish you success,
Peter O

Hello for Calgary

Hello,

Been a member for a couple of months, but never posted anything.

I like the MOS calculator as it saves me a ton of time looking at investments. The only thing is that it doesn't appear to be working right now, or else I have it set up wrong.

I love the information and am a firm believer in the community effect. Nice to have other views on investments.

Hi Chris and welcome to the community.

We are working on a fix for the mos calculator. Thank you for your patience.

Hello from Arizona

Hi all, I'm a IT Supervisor for a small city in Arizona. I already own a rental property and am looking at several others but want to get into the whole stocks game.
I read the Rule #1 while I was in the hospital at Christmas (yeah, it sucked) and am very excited to get going.
I'm also working on my MBA online.
3 kids, all girls...so I need 15% return to pay for college and weddings in the next 8 years!
Derek
