Smile Hello to everyone.

I write software for living, and I am trying to improve my retirement account.

I read Rule #1 recently, and I like it.

Hope I can learn something from this site, and contribute something back.

Lightbulb Ben Graham is back !

Hello,

I'm a french investor based in Paris. Two years ago I read The Intelligent Investor (twice ...) and was very impressed by it : so I decided to make a site (one more, sorry) to us Graham's Formula and Graham's qualitative filters for conservative and enterprising investor.

Well, the URL is there :
www.investinvalue.com

I hope it will be usefull for other members of the community.
Stephane

Re: Ben Graham is back !

I checked this out. It is an excellent resource. You can either look at the companies screened or you can scroll down and find a particular company and click on it (it might be nice, though, to be able to enter a ticker to look up a particular company). I was delighted to be able to look up financial information on foreign exchanges. I figured out that Altana Chemie (xe: alt) is only about $2 under MOS if you use an average of the last 3 years for EPS. I hope to find Graham companies and then see if they also meet Phil Town's criteria. The data come from Reuters UK so may be more reliable than MSN money. I was unable to locate WIRE on the list. If you find a company you are interested in, it is possible to change the numbers used to calculate mos. If you can't find a company you are interested in, you are unable to determine why it isn't chosen by the screener to make your own informed decision. It would also be nice if it listed the exchange and ticker for every company listed. It is interesting that there is currently only one company that meets all of Graham's criteria: Liz Claiborne (LIZ).

Holy @$%@$%!!!

That has got to be one of the coolest websites I've ever seen in terms of stock screening!

Now, to cross-screen its output against an R-1 screen...

*cackles wildly*

I did some comparison on MOS and my conclusion is Rule # 1 is more conservative than the Ben Graham formula. Its a good website to screen stocks and then if they pass the Graham Formula, then End the the Rule# 1 and see if they pass the test there too. If they Pass Both, then I guess you just confirmed that you won't loose money and invest with some confidence.

Personally, the graham website was a good stock screener and Hope they will add more stocks to it in the future. I look forward to reading the ben graham book and compare it with rule # 1 and see what works well for me.

Good day Y'all

Well, thank you so much for these "positive" mails : to be honest, I'm not totally satisfied with my site ; I think it can be much better ! But explaining clearly what value investing is = not so easy... the hard job was to "build what is behind the stage", now it's explaing what's on the stage ! so if you have suggestions or even want to collaborate, the door is open.

Thanks again

Phil Town - Question on bio

I am new to this online community and I joined because i am intrigued with all the hype surrounding Phil Town and the Rule #1 best selling book. I am a little confused though as to the statements made concerning Phil Town, his investment returns, and his bio and i was hoping for some clarification. Every time he is introduced, the claim is made that he took $1000 and turned it into millions. At an average rate of 15% per year it would take close to 50 years to make just 1 million- He claims to have done this in just a few years - Can anyone provide clarification on this? He obviously didnt get rich following the advice he is selling or am i missing something?

This is not meant to be a knock against Phil Town in anyway or his methods. I am just a young investor trying to learn.

Thanks
