Value Investing Congress
This is not a book, but a blog that summarizes the speeches given at the Value Investing Congress. Most of the speech givers are speaking about how they select stocks, and then pitch their favorite ideas. The speech givers are extremely respected members of the investment community: people like Mark Sellers, Pzena, Pabrai, etc. I don't know a lot about it yet - the blog only started in November 2007, but the ideas seem to be on a level of the stuff posted over at the Value Investors Club. Definitely worth reading, if for no other reason than knowing what some of the bigger names in money management are thinking about. Since these are summaries of a talk, you can't really evaluate the pitch for a specific company like you can at VIC. But it's a good source for fresh ideas. Anyway, I recommend wandering over and taking a look.

Re: Value Investing Congress
bump.
This is running again in NYC. In a year or two I fully intend to attend, but the entrance cost was a bit steep this year given I moved away from the area and just bought a house. Anyway, this is a gathering of the best of the best, and they share their ideas. I promise you, you will get good investment ideas here - not just stock tips, but an understanding of investing. People continually lament being a 'small guy' on this site, yet all the ideas are available to us. Use it! This web page summarizes the first two days, along with the stocks touted: World Beta - Engineering Targeted Returns and Risk: Value Investing Congress NYC, Summary With Picks I'll note, unhumbly, that SATS, which I just wrote up in "Searching for Investments", was recommended by no less then Whitney Tilson. Another stock I have touted endlessly on here, MCF, is recommended. A third stock, which I own and have been planning to write up, is ATPG. AXP, which I haven't bought, but want to (no cash left!), is also recommeded. Anyway, clearly I'm biased towards these guys, but really, read everything you can. Even if you eventually disagree with the picks or ideas/methods, it's a great recommendation on how the 'big guys' invest. |
