Re: Current Rule 1 Worthy Scan Results

thanks Gunnski and Lois

I only took a cursory look at the fundies - mind you - those are the results of S&P 5 stars. pretty pitiful - and those were the only 2 even close. the rest were horrible dogs

I looked at probably 300 others that I would not have even put on the site. But this is what I was hoping for. I think it would be great if we all took the results of the best scans we could come up with - and then rip them to shreds looking for the most worthy .

Gunnski - I am going to look at the ones you put up in the morning .
Lois - appreciate the look from Investools !

Happy Thanksgiving !

Re: Current Rule 1 Worthy Scan Results

GGG - you don't worry about it being overbought ?

this is where I guess I need a little more experience. I like to catch them when they've just turned green . I worry when they get a week out . but you 've had successful trades with them that far out ?

I want to compare them all to mkt relative strength tomorrow

Re: Current Rule 1 Worthy Scan Results

GGG- I have this on my Watch List.

I have MOS $28.22. So at it's curent price of $54.13. Yes, I would say it is to pricey for me. Not a $1.00 business for .50.

Looking at the chart. The time to have gotten in was around $43.00 when the 3-G's showed up. The book indicated not to try and buy into a rally once it has started. I would wait for this one.

Re: Current Rule 1 Worthy Scan Results

Gunnski - OK - we're on the same page. And as I mentioned before - I want this to be an open thread where we can discuss why something is or isn't watch worthy . I think a lot of us can learn from the discussions.

And I also think it's good for everyone - but especially those new to the book - to see the 1-1-1 3 Gs don't just pop up every day - esp not the Rule # Ones !

I think it's also important to learn where you can cut a corner - and which ones you should never - if you don't want to lose money

well after yesterday - and running many , many scans - and coming up with - I thought - were better and better written scans - I'm a little disappointed in the Prophet.net results. I'm REALLY disappointed with what are apparently S&P 5 star rated stocks . It seems that they are mostly overpriced - and their fundamentals aren't that great either. At this point , I have to say I prefer the MSN scans for their precision for fundamental components - you really can specify the growth fundamentals much more clearly

Anyone have any experience to the contrary ?

In defense of Prophet.netthough - they seem to have better scans for TA - triple bottoms, positive histogram , 100 day MA, 50 day MA, 20 day MA - but then you have to go through and hand check the fundamentals. I learn to manipulate them better each day though - so I may come to a happier satisfaction level down the road.

A super cool thing about Prophet.net is their Sector Page . They have the highest trend sectors listed of course , per usual - but then to the right , you can click on Charts - and the charts for each sector pop up . You can then filter the charts , which I always start with $15.00 ( not many rule #1 stocks are under 15), throw on the index trendline and the sector tendline is there- so you can see if the individual stock performs as well or better than the sector and the market. THAT IS vERY COOL. And I just discovred you can apparently save those to a watch list - and then do a scan of your watch list. So that may save having to check the fundamentals of every one by hand

Re: Current Rule 1 Worthy Scan Results

I think your Thread is awesome! I think the idea will help many. I have already learned some things. Plus you made me run over 150 businesses into the spreadsheet yesterday, off of my Power Scan.

I played the horses for many years. I tried all kinds of pay services & software to include AI which was pricey. I tried to deal with pace, current form, form patterns, form reversals, speed figures, class figures, pace firgures, jockeys, trainers, connnections, track surface, shippers, betting coups, class drops, jockey switches & breeding...just to name a few.

Recently, I re-read Phil's book. Everytime I read it, something new clicks.

The beauty of what he has layed out & is trying to pass on that this is not brain surgery. Keep it simple. Paper trade & get confidence. Then invest your $1,000.00 in ONE business. Track it and get in and out with the tools.

Don't get caught up in all the speed figures like I did with the horses. Its expensive and a big waste of time. Plus it will drive you crazy.

R-1 investing works! Give it some time & march on, but march on smart! Don't get caught on an off track, you'll just get booged down

Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: Current Rule 1 Worthy Scan Results

No wonder ! I think horse racing and stocks are very much the same thing - it's not ALL about the data - but uhmmmm... mostly ! I don't have a great deal of experience with horses , but whenever I go to a race, I love crunching the numbers !

So advising me not to get caught up in the number s?? HA ! Too late . Problem is - I like some of the numbers better than others - and I LOVE technical analysis . Phil's book taught me to throw away the obscure indcators and just stick to the tried and true though - and I am so much happier - had the paralysis of analysis too many times .

Today I am going to clean up my watch list. there are too many things on there that aren't really true Rule #1s - and they don't beat the mtk either . I am going to look at my watch list and make each stock prove itself to me .

Ideally - what I'd love - is to have a TA team - and a fundamentals team . can you imagine using that output on the MOS Machine ????

putting hand up in the air , volunteering for the TA side.....LOL ( I'm really not as good being objective about the fundamental figures )

Re: Current Rule 1 Worthy Scan Results

Do not forget the first "M". Meaning is very important and often over looked. I have seen comments regarding MOS. If you are at MOS or near you better jump in, it will not be there very long. I disagree. The M's need to be there.

I am old school as a retired police detective. I learned long ago the 80-20 principle. 20% of the people will do 80% of the work. Very common in municiple government work. I have no problem with that, I enjoy investing very much. With R-1 it is changing my financial life. We have rules that work, instead of playing whats heard on the street or spray and pray method. You can put yourself in complete control of your financail success and future!

Re: Current Rule 1 Worthy Scan Results

I had mixed results with data mining. They often throw up the flavour of the week but often miss the target as far as deeper analysis for a timeframe as long as ours is concerned. One might just as well limit the search to a P/E of no higher than 18 and come up with results just as good.

Morningstar has searches pre-defined as WB (warren buffet) stocks and also Ben Graham stocks. But the results were never that satisfying.

One thing is certain though. As one coams through the industries in a country one gets to know the products (companies) better and eventually builds a mind map.

I am quite happy with something like 8 companies to keep a close eye on because they might be near mos territory, and maybe 2 -3 times that amount just because I think they are companies I would love to find an opportunity to get into.

If you hit a home run averaging anything like 15% (or more) a few times a year then you are in pretty awesome shape.

When I first started I was eager to get going --and that cost me a bit. Not that it cost me more than I put in but it had a detrimental effect on my overall performance.

Now I try and practice more patience with investments. Waiting for the opportunity to come along and hit a massive fat pitch. Before I was not so confident that situations like this occur within a year. But now I am and, to quote Phil, there will always be an opportunity to have a fat swing at the optimal pitch.

When that happens it's very satisfying. When it happens again it gives enormous confidence in how right Phil actually is. This stuff ain't rocket science. It's us that make it so...
