Beginner- Please help with 3 tools set up

Ok, I have read the book and a few chapters several times. For the most part I am comfortable with the Big 5 but struggling with the 3 tools.

For starters, I am having trouble setting up the graphs exactly how Phil does in his book. I am on a mac using Yahoo Finance (clicking on charts>interactive). I have the 3 tools checked under the technical indicators drop down option.

For Simple Moving Avg, I have the default line 1 period (10). MACD the default is 26-12-9 which I have changed to what Phil suggest but sometimes it adds other numbers in front??? Last, Slow Stochastic is set to 14-5.

Where I know this is not 100% correct is when I try to emulate the graph on pg 210 of the book on Starbucks, mine looks nothing like this?

Please guide me through the step by step in setting up the charts so I only have to do this once.

Thank You!!!

japlan

Personally I would not get to hung up with trying to duplicate the looks of the chart as much as seeing if the signals are the same. On most of the site with free information you will need to be come a member which will allow you to save setting so you won't have to enter information every time I like msn myself

Recent post regarding solar stocks. ESLR & SOLF. Interesting technicals today.

ESLR broke through the all important MA(150), on good volumn & a peppy RSI. MA(50) is curling upward. Nice short term signal.

SOLF on the other hand broke above the important MA(150) then retraced and closed right on the MA(150). Interesting as this level has been resistance. Sometimes it will take a couple of hits on the door before you break it in. Hoping that is the case is here. Nice volumn, indicating interest.

Check out the charts on these (2).

Very nice confirmation this morning on both of these stocks. Moving up nicely this morning. Check out the chart(s). Remember, the charts do not lie.

Best of investing.

Nice 7.47% gain (combined) today on these (2) stocks.

If you can take a look at a (1) minute chart with a MA(20). (I use Scottrade streaming). It is really neat to watch the pulse of the market. I watched both SOLF & ESLR the last two hours of today's market. They both bounced off the MA(20) like clock work. It was like a dance.

Even with heavy profit taking at the end of the day, (which the big kids-institutions do, to lock in profit), both of these stocks retraced to the MA(20) and bounced right back! Fun to watch and put some of that green stuff in your billfold.
