Plant Property & Equipment & Leasing
Hi - Does anyone know how leasing arrangements are entered onto a companies balance sheet?
For example - Say a retailer had 200 stores but all were leased and none were owned, would the plant property and equipment line on the balance sheet not include those leased stores seeing as they are not really assets which the company have ? I think it would be quite misleading for a company to list millions and millions of property assets on their balance sheet if they were only leasing them hence my question. I am trying to establish how strong you can rely on the plant property and equipment line when looking at a companys assets. thanks for any help. |

Re: Plant Property & Equipment & Leasing
In answer to my own question I have since discovered there is a line under the PP&L called 'Capital leases' which are leased properties the company does not own and should removed from any asset value calculations.
