Turtle

I stepped on a "Turtle" this weekend. Interesting video at ino.com (Market Club-free to sign up).

Please take some time and check out ino.com. Great videos from 1.00 -1.75 hrs. of your time. Great education!

Back to the "Turtles". I think I have seen some systems like this in the Daily Racing Form (rages to riches). It is always a blind man or a retired cop that wants to share the "secret" for a price.

They trade on a (buy) 20 day high breakout and (sell) on a 10 day low. Reverse to short. "Bonzo the Chimp" can do that.

Those ten days (waiting period) in this market could wipe out any profits @ about day 5 1/2!

Any thoughts on the "Turtle Traders"?

Re: Turtle

I've read pretty extensively about the Turtle trading system. They were trading futures in Chicago. Curtis Faith (the most profitable Turtle) did say in a forum that he has had some success in the stock market trading stocks that had a high relative strength (with the turtle method).

It's a very simple method started by Richard Dennis - a very successful futures trader. Dennis bet his rich buddy that he could teach a handful of guys to handily beat the market - he taught them this simple method and they all killed the market.

Simple trend-following. I use a few of their techniques. Weinstein in his book also espouses trading on breakouts.

Re: Turtle

You can read all about the turtle system in Curtis Faith his book 'The way of the turtle". I red it some months ago, it was my first book on trading in futures. A nice book to read, with some good indicators to follow price trends. The book has pretty much the same structure as the book from K. Van Tharp ('Trade your way to financial freedom'). Not much info on investing in stocks though.

Re: Turtle

I pulled a PDF file from a Google search. "The Original Turtle Trading Rules". Prepared in 2003 by OriginalTurtles.org. It's 33 pages in length. I found it very interesting.

FYI.
